Why Aussiedoodles?

You may be wondering why I breed Aussiedoodles.

To answer that, I have to give you a bit of background - my now husband got our first Australian Shepherd puppy a week after we started dating. A couple months later, she claimed me as her 'main person.'

Red Tri Australian Shepherd

Cleo was an awesome dog in every way! She was loyal, protective, intelligent, healthy - the perfect companion and 'Nana' to our boys when they were born.

I'd had dogs before, but never one like her!

I also had the opportunity to be around quite a few other Australian Shepherds as we got involved in some herding groups. I met Aussies that were hyper-focused on herding, and fluffy Aussies that were bred for the show ring. Cleo's maintenance free coat, and well balanced herding drive showed the wisdom and value in the traditional Australian Shepherd qualities - qualities I prized in her!

I found it hard to find people who were breeding for the traits I felt were vital in preserving this breed, and carrying on the traditional qualities Australian Shepherds were always known for.

In light of that, I bred Cleo to carry on her legacy, and we kept one of her puppies - Dusty Rose.

While Australian Shepherds are my passion, they are not suitable for everyone with their high energy levels and need for daily mental stimulation/challenge.

That's where the Aussiedoodles come in!

F1 Red Phantom Aussiedoodle

Aussiedoodles are very intelligent and loving dogs, excellent for family life, advanced obedience training, agility, and service or therapy work. They're very intuitive, loving, loyal, and attach very strongly to their family members. Typically, they are outgoing, social, and enjoy being a big part of their families lives, whatever that entails.

Ideally, Aussiedoodles will display a very balanced mix of herding and protective traits from the Australian Shepherd, as well as the enhanced intelligence and composure of the Poodle. Many will display minimal herding behaviors while being fiercely loyal and quietly protective of their family, though it's important to keep in mind that temperament can vary from dog to dog. Some maybe be more energetic and playful, while others are more laid-back and chill.

Aussiedoodles make great family dogs because they are generally gentle, loving and people-focused. They can be great watchdogs, not typically aggressive, but will definitely alert you to strangers approaching.

If you are looking for a dog that will cuddle with you on the couch or snuggle up in bed, an Aussiedoodle is a great choice as they are known for their cuddly nature and love of attention.

"I think an Aussiedoodle is right for me" So now what?

Remember that your new puppy might live 10-15 years, so carefully decide what traits or attributes you are looking for in a dog.

Aussiedoodles can be SO MUCH FUN to train. They are very intelligent and will develop naughty habits quickly without training. If you are pro-active and hands-on with your dogs, this breed is for you! Aussiedoodles thrive with constant engagement and stimulation. With the right training, the sky is the limit regarding what you can teach these amazing dogs.
